New Paltz Serves up 8-1 Win Over Oneonta
ONEONTA — The SUNYAC New Paltz Women’s Tennis team opened their season on the road with an 8-1 defeat against State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival SUNY Oneonta.
At number one singles, sophomore Dana Lim (Clarkstown South/New City) was defeated by senior Nicole Lindell 6-3, 2-6, and 3-6. Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) defeated senior first year Katie Wlodarczyk 6-0 and 6-4 in number two singles. Serving up at number three singles was first year Laura-Elizabeth Beirne (Shoreham-Wading River/Moriches). Beirne won 6-1 and 6-3 over Zirka Markewyca. The winning streak continued for the Hawks as senior Jennifer Larson (Port Jervis) beat Elise Perigard in number four singles, 6-3, 6-0.
In number five singles Katherine Ketigian (Scared Heart Academy/Garden City) claimed the victory over Allison Pearlman 6-1 and 6-3. Rounding out the singles action at number six was Kerri Serkes (Massapequa) who defeated Dana Kuroski 6-3, 2-6 and 6-2.
The Hawks swept the doubles action, behind an 8-1 victory from the number one team of Lim and Yamakawa who defeated Lindell and Wlodarczyk. At number two doubles the duo of Ketigian and Larson downed Markewycz and Emily Carroll, 8-2. Beirne and junior Jodie Brenner (Plainview Old Bethpage/Plainview) soared past Perigard and Kristen Donnelly in number three doubles, 8-1.
The Hawks continue play tomorrow Saturday September 2, as they set off against SUNY Potsdam at 2 p.m.
