SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis Team Competes at NYSWCAA
ITHACA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team began play today for the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Tournament at the Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca New York.
At the end of play this evening, the Hawks sophomore Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) advanced through the first round at number one singles defeating Angela Tessoni of Nazareth College 3-6, 6-4, 13-11. Yamakawa will advance to the quarterfinals tomorrow where she will meet number two seed Debbie Sharnak of Vassar College.
At number two singles, freshman, Dana Lim (New City, NY) defeated Meghan Kelly of William Smith College in straight sets 6-4,6-3. Lim who is currently the number three seed in the tournament also advances to the quarterfinals tomorrow to face Melissa Walsh of RIT.
At number three singles for the Hawks, freshman Katherine Ketigian (Garden City, NY) lost to number two seeded Kelly Barnett of Vassar College in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
At number four singles for the Hawks, senior Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) defeated Betsy O?Brien of Nazareth College in straight sets 6-3, 6-0. Fenton will advance to the quarterfinals tomorrow where she will face off against number two-seeded Jenny Grabler of Skidmore College.
In number five singles action, sophomore Jen Larson (Port Jervis, NY) lost to Hayley McLaughlin of New York University in straight sets 4-6,3-6. While freshman Brittany Gilligan (Saratoga Springs, NY), who is seeded third at number six singles fell to Erinn Cain of William Smith College in three close sets 6-7, 6-4, 7-10.
