Smith Named SUNYAC Player of the Week for Field Hockey

FREDONIA, NY — SUNY New Paltz sophomoreforward Ashley Smith (Selden, NY) has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Player of the Week for her efforts in conference and non-conference play this week.

Smith earned the Player of the Week honor in field hockey for the week ending October 9. Smith led SUNY New Paltz to a 2-0 record last week leading the Hawks to their first conference win of the season.

Against Ramapo College Forward Ashley Smith scored one goal and tallied an assist in the 2-0 win. Smith?s eighth goal of the season was the game-winner in a 2-1 overtime victory against Oswego this past Saturday. Smith currently has eight goals and one assist for the Hawks, who are 4-8 overall and 1-3 in the SUNYAC.

The SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey team will travel to conference rival Cortland on Saturday, October 15 at 1:00 pm.
