Drew Pulls Away Late To Defeat Hawks, 6-1
MADISON, NJ — 2003 NCAA Division III National Runner-Up Drew University scored three goals in the final 25 minutes to pull away from SUNY New Paltz and register a 6-1 victory in the second day of the Drew Fall Classic.
Senior midfielder Mike Giacopelli and junior forward Derek Swanner each had two goals for the Rangers who are off to a 3-0 start.
Trailing 2-0 midway through the second half, SUNY New Paltz broke into the scoring column when senior midfielder Chris Daly (Washingtonville, NY) set up senior defender Michael Dodge (Central Islip, NY) for a goal that pulled the Hawks (0-3) within one.
Four minutes later, Swanner added his second goal of the game to put Drew ahead 3-1. The Rangers then converted on two penalty kick opportunities within an 11-minute stretch to pull away.
