Smith Notches Double-Double, Hawks Fall To Oneonta
ONEONTA, NY — Senior Jayvard Smith (Hempstead, NY) recorded his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds and freshman Amseshem Foluke-Henderson (Jamaica, NY) added 16 points in New Paltz’s 73-64 loss to SUNYAC rival Oneonta this evening.
Oneonta (4-18, SUNYAC 3-11) was led by senior Kurt Troyer (Albany, NY) who scored 14 of his game-high 22 points in the first half as the Red Dragons went into the locker room with a 31-21 lead.
New Paltz (5-17, 3-11) opened the second half on a 9-4 run to cut the deficit to five points at 35-30. Smith scored five points during the spurt. The Hawks would get within four points at the 14:29 mark but wouldn’t get any closer for the remainder of the game.
Oneonta freshman Michael Reardon (Staten Island, NY) also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Senior Steve Ott (New Paltz, NY) had six points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks for the Hawks in their final road game of the season.
New Paltz returns to the court when they host SUNYAC foe Fredonia State on Friday, February 20 at 8:00 pm.
