New Paltz Men’s Volleyball Team Falls 3-1 to Stevens Tech
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball took the first game against defending North Eastern Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Champion Stevens Tech, but fell 3-1 this evening at Elting Gym.
The Hawks (2-2, 0-2) played nearly error free volleyball in the opening game with 13 kills and just two errors to claim a 30-26 victory.
After hitting just .100 in the opening game, Stevens Tech played stronger on the offensive end in the last three games to win the match. The Ducks, who would go on to hit .247 for the match, were led by sophomore outside hitter Chris Bock (Orlando, FL) and junior outside hitter Brian Woodworth (San Jose, CA) who had 19 and 17 kills respectively. Freshman Scott Stoner (Wantagh, NY) added 11 kills and a .467 hitting percentage to help Stevens Tech (11-1, 2-0) win its seventh consecutive match.
Junior outside hitter Mike LaRocco (Hauppauge, NY) had 20 kills, nine digs and a .350 hitting percentage for New Paltz. Junior outside hitter Chris Ganje (Halfmoon, NY) also turned in a strong performance and finished with 15 kills and a .263 hitting percentage.
