New Paltz Women’s 200 Medley Relay Team Wins ECAC Championship
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s swimming teams are now halfway through the 2003 ECAC Division III Championship. Highlighting the event thus far, was a first place finish by the women’s 200 medley relay team of Danielle Lindner, Mallory Grempel, Liz Delia, and Joanna Masterson.
The foursome finished with a race with a time of 1:52.76 to win the event late last evening. The men also had an entry in the 200 medley relay with the team of Ken Yeung, Danny Lo, Jon Sousa, and Marc Costello who were fourth with a time of 1:41.67.
New Paltz wrapped up Saturday’s first session with some strong performances on both the men’s and women’s side. Yeung finished fourth with a time of 48.92 in the 100 freestyle. Sousa came in fifth in the 200 butterfly with a time 2:02.30. The Hawks 800 free relay team of Sousa, Yeung, Jay Sousa, and Marc Costello took sixth place with a time of 7:31.72.
For the women, Lindner was the runner up in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:14.92. Masterson was a third place finisher in the 100 freestyle at 55.27 and Grempel was fifth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:32.92.
Saturday’s evening session is scheduled to begin at approximately 6:30 p.m.
