Musicians of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic Recital III: Music for Cello and Piano
NEW PALTZ — Join Susan Seligman, principal cellist of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, and pianist Sylvia Buccelli for an evening of music by Beethoven, Barber, and Popper on November 4 at SUNY New Paltz.
Faculty members in the Music Department, Seligman and Buccelli will collaborate in performances of Beethoven ‘s Sonata in F Major, Op. 5, No. 1; the Sonata in C Minor, Op. 6 of the masterful Samuel Barber; and, the evocative “Hungarian Rhapsody” by the 19th century cellist and composer David Popper.
In addition to being principal cellist, Susan Seligman has performed in Music in the Mountains Festival Chamber Players, La Grande Ecurie (an historic instrument ensemble), and the Pone Ensemble for New Music. Additionally, international music festivals in Brazil, France, Italy and Switzerland have welcomed her participation.
Pianist Buccelli is a founding member of several chamber music ensembles in the Northeast as well as a frequent recital partner of instrumentalists and vocalists. She has performed at Weill Recital Hall in New York and throughout New England, where she appeared at the New England Conservatory and in many radio concerts. Presently, Buccelli is a member of the piano trio Innisfree.
Seligman and Buccelli’s performance, sponsored by the SUNY New Paltz Music Department, will be presented on Tuesday, November 4 at 8:00 p.m. in McKenna Theatre.
