New Paltz Falls to Buffalo State, Fredonia
BUFFALO/FREDONIA, NY — The New Paltz women’s lacrosse team lost conference games to Buffalo State and Fredonia this past weekend.
The Hawks dropped a 14-4 game to the Bengals on Friday and lost a 17-1 match on Saturday to the Blue Devils.
Against Buffalo State, the Bengals struck early against the Hawks as Stefanie Hineman put the hosts up 1-0 with just 45 seconds gone in the game. From there, the Bengals scored the next seven goals of the game to take an 8-0 lead into halftime.
The Hawks turned up the intensity in the second half scoring four goals, including two from Megan Porter (Massapequa, NY) to close the gap. Jillian Sheppard (Stony Point, NY) and Theresa Hayes (Ballston Lake, NY) each added a goal and Jenna Hudes (Levittown, NY) picked up an assist.
The Bengals, however, put six shots past goalkeeper Lisa Bizzarro (Lindenhurst, NY) in the second half to take the 14-4 victory.
Hineman finished with four goals to lead the Bengals and Nayda Chomiak added three.
Saturday, The Fredonia Blue Devils took a 10-0 first-half lead and did not allow a New Paltz shot.
Katelyn Ferry scored four times for the Blue Devils and Kristin Roussel added three.
Porter scored in the second half but it was too little too late as Fredonia ran away with the win 17-1.
Fredonia improves to 7-7 and 2-5 in the SUNYAC while New Paltz drops to 1-10 and 0-7.
New Paltz will next do battle with Utica College Monday in their home finale beginning at 4:00 p.m.
