Hawks Drop a Doubleheader to Conference Foe Buffalo State

HIGHLAND, NY – — Playing for the first time in the nearly two weeks, the SUNY New Paltz softball team dropped a doubleheader to conference foe Buffalo State.

Behind the pitching of Melissa Balsavage (Cheektowaga, NY) the Bengals took the opener 9-1. Balsavage went six innings and allowed four hits and one run. Shortstop Nicole Willats (Tonawanda, NY) went 1-for-3 and drove in three for Buffalo State who scored two in the first, three in the fourth and four in the sixth.

New Paltz center fielder Jen Born (Walworth, NY) went 1-for- 3 and drove in the Hawks lone run in the fifth.

In game two, Buffalo State scored seven times in the first to cruise to a 10-0 win. Rightfielder Heidi Rammacher (Angola, NY) was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer. Willats was 2-for-3 to help the Bengals improve to 11-5 overall and 2-0 in the SUNYAC.

New Paltz, who was limited to three hits in the game, is now 0-12 overall and 0-5 in the conference.
