Eckerd Hands Hawks Second Defeat
ST. PETERSBURG, FL — For the second time in as many days, the Eckerd College Tritons defeated the New Paltz men’s baseball team in St. Petersburg, FL.
The Tritons scored 10 runs in the first three innings and went on to a 15-3 win Tuesday evening for their 18th victory of the season. Monday night, Eckerd defeated New Paltz 11-2 thanks to seven and 2/3 innings of perfect pitching from Sam Reece.
Corbin Spohnholtz did the damage on the mound for Eckerd Tuesday silencing the New Paltz bats through six innings after surrendering two runs in the top of the first.
Spohnholtz got ample run support on the night as his teammates pounded out 17 hits. Chris Brooks went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI to lead Eckerd and Bill Evers and Joe Milbury each drove in three runs apiece.
For the Hawks, Silvester Castro (New York, NY), Tom Bigler (Brewster, NY), Matt Zajdel (Agwam, MA), Randy Walters (Collierville, TN), and Phil Scaglione (Stony Point, NY) managed the only hits in the game with one apiece. Bigler, Zajdel, and Walters each had one RBI.
Rich Bizelia (Massapequa, NY) fell to 0-2 on the season giving up eight hits in one and 1/3 innings of work.
The Hawks next take on Franklin & Marshall Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
