Student Art Alliance announces return of Visiting Artists Lecture Series

The Student Art Alliance at the State University of New York at New Paltz announces the return of its popular Visiting Artist Lecture Series for fall 2015.

Each semester the student members of the Alliance invite artists, historians, critics and curators to give presentations on their work or on current issues in contemporary culture. The series offers unique opportunities to explore and discuss contemporary creative practices. More than 200 internationally recognized artists and designers representing the range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary interests of the region have participated in this series, including Vito Acconci, Martin Puryear, Ursula von Rydikngvard and many others.

The following presentations are free and open to the public and given on select Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m. in Lecture Center 102.


 

Wednesday, Oct. 7: Hilary Greenbaum, Graphic Design. Greenbaum is the design director for the Whitney Museum of American Art, and a professor at New York University’s School of Continuing & Professional Studies. http://hilarygreenbaum.com/

Wednesday, Oct. 14: Dread Scott, Installation. Scott makes revolutionary art to propel history forward. His art has been exhibited at the MoMA PS1, the Contemporary Art Museum Houston and the Walker Art Center, among many other venues, and is featured in the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the New Museum of Contemporary Art (NY) and the Akron Art Museum (OH). http://www.dreadscott.net/

Wednesday, Nov. 4: Lauren Gallaspy, Ceramics. Gallaspy is an Assistant Professor of Art in Ceramics at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, and is a former co-director and owner of Trace Gallery in Athens, Georgia. In 2013, she was recognized by the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts as an Emerging Artist in her field. http://www.laurengallaspy.com/

Wednesday, Nov. 11: Alison Causer, Painting: An artist and painter based in New York City, Causer has exhibited widely in Brooklyn and Manhattan and was recently awarded a residency at The League Residency at Vytlacil in Orangevill, N.Y. http://www.alisoncauser.com/

Wednesday, Nov. 18: Miguel Rivera, Printmaking. Rivera is assistant professor and chair of the printmaking faculty at the Kansas City Art Institute and former chair of the Art Department at the University of Guanajuato in Mexico. A practicing artist as well as an experienced educator, Rivera has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Mexico, Japan and the United States. http://miguelriveraart.blogspot.com/

Wednesday, Dec. 2: Kala Stein, Ceramics. Stein was named a Top Ten Emerging Artist in Ceramics Monthly magazine (May 2011) and is known for porcelain installations and modern tableware. She is an instructor in ceramics at Alfred University. http://www.kalastein.com/index.html
