Hawks Finish Fifth in Oswego Invitational Tournament
OSWEGO, NY – — The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team finished fifth among eight teams at the Oswego Invitational Tournament this weekend.
The Hawks earned the fifth place spot following a 3-0 win over St. Lawrence in their fourth and final match of the two-day tournament. SUNY New Paltz defeated St. Lawrence 30-23, 30-26, 30-23 behind the play of senior Jackie Goldstein (Port Jervis, NY) who had 16 kills and three blocks to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Junior Jennifer Hollis (Livingston, NJ) had 20 assists and freshman Andrea Kaiser (Blue Point, NY) recorded nine digs and five kills.
The Hawks, now 10-22 this season, began the day with a 3-0 loss (30-19, 31-29, 30-16) to Clarkson. Goldstein had nine kills and three blocks and Hollis recorded 17 assists.
SUNY New Paltz went 1-1 in Friday’s (Oct. 18) opening round action. The Hawks lost 3-0 to the host Oswego (30-16, 30-23, 30-26) but followed that up with a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Keuka. The Hawks were down 2-0 (21-30, 21-30) to Keuka before taking the next three games, 30-25, 30-27, 15-13, to win the match.
