Office of Records & Registration promotes from within
SUNY New Paltz announces the appointment of Laura Schultz ‘11g (Humanistic/Multicultural Education) as college registrar.
Schultz, who has been a valued member of the Office of Records & Registration since 1999, had most recently served as associate college registrar. That position will be filled by Sarah Roberson ’06 (Biology), who has been a full-time member of the Records & Registration staff since 2007.
“We are fortunate to have, during this time of leadership transition, two very skilled and experienced professionals who were ready and willing to accept the expanded responsibilities and challenges associated with their promotions,” said L. David Eaton, vice president for Enrollment Management. “I am grateful for their dedication and enthusiasm and am confident that they will lead the Records and Registration team to new levels of service to the New Paltz campus community.”
As Schultz assumes this role she aims to continue to find ways to improve efficiencies, such as transitioning to a paperless graduation application, which will make it easier and more environmentally-friendly for students to request addition to graduation rolls and track their status.
Schultz and the Records & Registration staff are also preparing for a move to the soon-to-be-reopened Wooster Building, which will house a number of student-directed administrative offices alongside some academic departments following a multi-year renovation project. The building is anticipated to open in January 2016.
“I can’t say enough about the great team in this office,” Schultz said. “Change can happen rather quickly here, and that can be hard. But we have a fantastic group of people here who have shown the ability to adapt, and I am excited to continue working with them in this new role.”
Prior to her promotion to associate college registrar, Roberson had primarily worked scheduling academic classes, a balancing act that requires consideration of faculty availability and changes to classroom locations.
“The academic schedule has been a challenge, as construction has created some flux in available rooms. But we’ve responded with good strategies for scheduling, and I feel I’m leaving that work in a good place for another person to pick up,” Roberson said. “Now I’m looking forward to having time to explore other systems in use by this office, and find ways to make those work to their fullest potential.”
Among Roberson’s new duties will be to support the Banner system, which allows students for enroll for classes, check grades and manage other aspects of their academic records.
“I’ve been known as the ‘Banner guru’ for some time now, and that’s one of the roles that Sarah is going to be taking over,” Schultz said. “She and I have always worked very well together, and I’m sure she’ll pick up right where I left off and deliver new, creative ideas for improving the system.”
