Otto, Amoia Claim Titles On Second Day of SUNYAC Championships
BUFFALO, NY — Hawk swimmers claimed three more titles Friday in Buffalo, NY at the SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships. In the men’s 200-yard medley relay, Kent Yeung, Jeff Galaise, Jon Amoia, and Mark Otto took the title with a school record time of 1:36.44. Otto also claimed the championship in the men’s 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.91 and Amoia won the 100-yard breaststroke shattering the school record, meet record and qualifying for the NCAAs with a time of 57.98.
“It’s been four years of hard work and dedication in search of a championship,” remarked Otto after his win. “With the help of my coach and support of my teammates, my dream has come true.”
“It started with the medley relay,” added Amoia after his two winning races. “It set the tone. They were perfect races. We’ve been very blessed and nothing was a given. We worked hard and it was just our time.”
Coach Brian Williams was ecstatic with the evening’s performances. “It’s been an unlikely night, but a spectacular night.”
After day two, the women sit in 4th place with 305 points behind Geneseo (570), Oswego (423), and Cortland (386). The men have jumped up to 3rd with 358 points behind Geneseo (542) and Oswego (527).
