The Class of 2025 celebrates the next chapter during the annual Senior Toast

A much-loved pre-Commencement tradition at SUNY New Paltz continued on May 15, as hundreds of graduating seniors joined together one more time and raised a celebratory glass at the Senior Toast.

“I want you to remember this moment,” said President Darrell P. Wheeler. “You should embrace this and hold this as one of the most precious activities in your experience, and the launching of a next and beautiful chapter.”

With soon-to-be graduates set to enter a new phase of life following their graduation ceremonies, Student Association President Xavier Morell ’25 (Finance) issued an inspiring call to action.

When we cross that stage this weekend, it’s up to us to do our part,” said Morell. “Day by day, if we do what we can, I have no doubt we can make this world a better place.”

Every year, the Senior Toast includes the unveiling of the Senior Class Gift, which raises funds to support the next generations of Hawks. This year’s campaign generated more than $9,000 for the SUNY New Paltz Foundation.

The Senior Toast also serves as an official welcome into the SUNY New Paltz Alumni Association, a network of more than 74,000 Hawks, and counting.

“Now that you’re a part of this big alumni network, we hope you’ll always look back on your time here with gratitude and good memories,” said Assistant Director of Alumni Relations Jennifer D’Andrea. “Your journey at the University is just the beginning of a lifelong connection.”

A few graduating seniors shared their own toasts to what they will remember most about their time at New Paltz, and what they’re looking forward to:

To the fruitful years of studying with the people I love the most,” – Srinija Gumudavelli ’25 (Psychology) of Stony Brook, New York

To meeting people from all kinds of different places,” – Vincent Mandracchia ’25 (Music) of Rye, New York

To future goals,” – SUNY Chancellor’s Award winner Corey Carter ’25 (Computer Science) of New York, New York

The 2025 Senior Toast was made possible by the Center for Student Engagement, the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Development & Alumni Relations.
