Four from the SUNY New Paltz Class of 2025 receive SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence
Four SUNY New Paltz students have been honored with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence, the highest honor bestowed upon students by the state university system.
The Chancellor’s Award recognizes excellence in academics, athletics, leadership, service, campus involvement and/or the arts.
Our honorees were recognized alongside their SUNY peers at SUNY’s 2025 Award Ceremony on April 29 in Albany, New York.

Luke Anderson ’25 (Theatre Arts; Business Management) of Forest Hills, New York
Luke Anderson has a dual major in Business Management and Theatre Arts with a concentration in Performance. He is a two-time recipient of both the Dr. Beverly M. Brumm Annual and Endowed Scholarship and the Mildred and Louis Resnick Scholarship Fund. Anderson is a leader in the School of Business, where he directs marketing activities for the student-run Management Association and has been inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the international business honors society.
Corey Carter ’25 (Computer Science) of New York, New York
A member of the Honors Program, the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and the AC2 Program, Corey Carter is a first-generation student and a leader among his peers in the School of Science & Engineering. He has adopted a service-minded approach since joining the University in 2020, collaborating with junior students as a member of the EOP Peer ALLI (Advocacy, Leadership, & Learning, Initiative) initiative, and providing mentorship as a lab proctor. His Honors Program senior thesis is a study of the University’s Brightspace platform which includes recommendations for enhancing this critical software for our campus.
Leona Omozore ’25 (Sociology; Black Studies) of Lindenhurst, New York
Leona Omozore is a motivated student leader who is passionate about promoting cultural awareness here on campus and beyond. Through her roles as a Senior Resident Advisor, president of the Black Student Union and president of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., she has promoted inclusivity and advocated for social justice and equity. Her leadership focuses on empowering students and promoting their overall well-being.
Katarina Xie ’25 (Communication Disorders) of Flushing, New York
Katarina Xie is a Communication Disorders major with a passion for her field, who provides leadership within her program as president the National Student Speech, Language & Hearing Association (NSSHLA) and social media coordinator of the Audiology Club. She recently applied her skillset as an intern at the New York University Rusk Rehabilitation Center, and she earned an early publication credit for her scholarship when her original work on media representation of Alzheimer’s disease appeared in New Voices, New Visions magazine.
