New Paltz students earn highest honors at annual short film competition hosted by the Broadcast Education Association
SUNY New Paltz student filmmakers earned prestigious recognition at the Broadcast Education Association’s Film48 Competition for their original short films, “Refund Policy” and “Cartman’s Intervention.”
Students from the Department of Digital Media & Journalism and the Hawk Studios video production club wrote, produced, filmed and edited within a 48-hour period after being assigned prompts from the Broadcast Education Association. The films were then screened at the annual competition, where they earned first and second place, respectively, amidst colleges and universities across the country.
“We are thrilled that our New Paltz students have been recognized once again for their creativity and skill in this major film competition,” said Valerie Turco, director of New Paltz’s Center for Student Media. “It is amazing to see what our students were able to come up with and produce in just two days, putting to use the skills they’ve learned in their courses, or hands-on experience on campus.”
The Broadcast Education Association (BEA) is a leader in telecommunications and electronic media, and their annual festival is a celebration of audio and video production in a variety of genres from higher education student talent.
SUNY New Paltz hosted the first BEA Collegiate Media Chapter in 2017. Since then, a number of colleges worldwide have formed their own chapters.
