Student Health Service is here for you: Students collaborate with campus hub for physical & mental health resources on awareness campaign

Why is student health important? New Paltz’s Student Health Service and a team of graduating seniors—Ryan Ng ’25 (Communication—Organizational), Emma Carey ’25 (Communication—Strategic), Allie Shoen ’25 (Communication—Strategic), Joey Mondello ’25 (Communication—Strategic) and Lily Hudson ’25 (Communication—Organizational)—are here to help students understand why, with a Health & Wellness Campaign of live events to promote campus health services.

“In times defined by change, such as the transition into college life, my fellow campaign-runners and I want to help our peers change their habits for the better,” said Hudson. “By teaching and reinforcing these healthy skills and habits now, we can help ourselves take better care throughout the rest of our lives.”

“We are thrilled that students are interested in taking control of their health, learning about healthy habits and enriching the lives of their peers through education,” said Student Health Service Director Dr. Amy Cocina. “We are grateful for this collaborative campaign, and together, we can best create a whole-person approach to healthy living.”

From now until Nov. 22, live events will then take place throughout campus encouraging physical and mental health wellness, concluding with a live online nutritional health takeover of the Instagram page, which will include a Q&A livestream, infographics and information on healthy eating recipes, all hosted by Dining Services nutritionist Kelly Pearson.

The New Paltz Department of Communication & Student Health Service’s Health & Wellness Campaign is a collaboration with many campus partners, including Dining Services, the Athletics & Wellness Center and Psychological Counseling Center.

New Paltz’s Student Health Service’s mission is to ensure that students have access to quality care and information for health, wellness and medical needs, while providing quality medical care in a compassionate environment at no cost, and to communicate to students the value of making healthy choices regarding diet, exercise, sleep, relaxation, alcohol, drugs, vaccinations and more.
