Sojourner Truth Library study rooms now reserved for current students

The following information was sent to campus by Sojourner Truth Library Dean Susan Frey on Oct. 4.

As announced prior to the start of the semester, the Sojourner Truth Library’s Ground Floor has been impacted by additional environmental issues since the successful mold remediation project last year.  As a result, study rooms and other public spaces had to be reallocated for temporary offices.

Effective immediately, all group and individual study rooms are now reserved for current student use only. This change in policy has been made in response to the dire need for spaces since 2020 that meet individual online proctor exam requirements, are conducive to participation in online learning, and offer individual safe, quiet spaces for students.

Faculty and staff have access to the Faculty-Staff Quiet Study Room, which has been temporarily relocated to Room M05 on the Main Level of the Library.  This room is reserved for faculty and staff who wish to conduct quiet, individual work.  Additional information about this room may be viewed at https://library.newpaltz.edu/policies/facultyroom.html.

For individual student tutoring, instructors are welcome to tutor students on the Main Floor of the Library, which is designed especially for collaboration and discussion, or on other floors at the open tables.

In response to the space issues affecting everyone across campus, Library administration is acutely aware of the need for creative space management in the Library.
