The Best Week Ever returns! New students can have fun and meet new people during Welcome Week

As the newest SUNY New Paltz Hawks begin their higher education journey, the University’s Center for Student Engagement is offering a huge slate of Welcome Week events from Aug. 22-28. 

It all starts with Move-in Day on Thursday, Aug. 22, as student, faculty and staff volunteers help new resident students settle into their campus homes-away-from-home.

Some highlights include: 

Ready to put your music knowledge to the test? Welcome Week kicks off Thursday, Aug. 22 with Aux Cord Wars Trivia, a one-of-a-kind, interactive speed-round experience where prizes are earned every round! 

New students can get familiar with the local business community at the Get to know New Paltz Fair, Aug. 23 starting at 12 p.m. in the Student Union Building Concourse, then get to know their peers at Ultimate Frisbee Fun on West Recreation Field, starting at 3 p.m. 

Cap off Friday evening with a night of comedy starting at 7:30 p.m. in Lecture Center 100, with a free show from up-and-coming stand-up comedian Ahmed Al-Kadri. 

Get to know and help your new community with Hawks in Action: Building a Better Community, Saturday, Aug. 24 at Parker Quad from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., a day of service filled with various projects that benefit both the campus and local community.  

Take in an outdoor movie screening of “Mean Girls” on Old Main Quad, Saturday, Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. 

Looking for last-minute dorm room items? Spend a day at the Poughkeepsie Galleria Mall with a bus trip on Sunday, Aug. 25, departing from the Route 32 parking lot at 12 p.m. 

SUNY New Paltz has hundreds of clubs and organizations, and you can get to know all of them at the fall 2024 Club & Involvement Fair! Pay a visit to Parker Quad on Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., and meet new people along the way.  

And of course, New Student Convocation, the official welcome event for all new students, on Aug. 27. A fall campus tradition, this year’s event offers opportunities for students to connect with faculty, staff and their peers, and celebrate both the academic and social life of SUNY New Paltz.
