SUNY New Paltz to welcome more than 2,400 new students for 2024-25
More than 1,200 first-year students and nearly 700 transfer students will join the SUNY New Paltz community this fall, as the University prepares to welcome a robust incoming class that continues a trend of steadily growing student populations since the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Overall graduate program enrollment alone has risen 20% to nearly 600 new graduate students. Returning undergraduate student numbers are up by 3% and returning graduate student numbers are up by 9.5%, for a campus enrollment of more than 7,200 total students.
“As a new academic year dawns, it is energizing for our campus community to welcome so many new students and families, and to know that they are entrusting SUNY New Paltz with their academic, professional and personal growth,” said Stella Turk, vice president for enrollment management. “We are eager to serve this diverse and academically strong incoming class, and we cannot wait to see what they will accomplish during their time here.”
Entering first-year students are arriving to New Paltz with an average GPA of 91, and new transfer students are coming in with an average college GPA of 3.2.
This year’s incoming class is a diverse student body with 38% self-identifying as either Hispanic of any race, Black or African American, Asian, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific, Two or more races, or International; 54% identifying as white; and 8% for whom race/ethnicity was not shared (source: Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System classifications).
New first-year students and their families will begin settling into their on-campus homes on Move-In Day, Thursday, Aug. 22. Returning students will continue to arrive through the weekend before classes begin on Monday, Aug. 26.
