SUNY New Paltz hosts successful training in Youth Mental Health First Aid
For the second time this year, SUNY New Paltz faculty and staff completed the Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training session July 22 in Old Main Building, led by Associate Director for Student Wellbeing & Prevention Education Jaclyn Cirello and Educational Studies & Leadership faculty Mathew Swerdloff.
The 17 employee participants came from various offices and departments, including Financial Aid, Finance & Administration, School of Education, Department of Communication Disorders and Student Health Service.
After completing the training, they are now better equipped to offer support to SUNY students and other youth.
“Throughout the day, there were many discussions about the needs of students and how we as caring adults can best support them,” said Swerdloff. “We are delighted that there are now another group of adults with the YMHFA toolkit available to them as a resource.”
