University mourns death of Ray Snider, longtime School of Education faculty member
It is with sadness that we share news of the death of Ray Snider, professor emeritus in the School of Education who remained an engaged SUNY New Paltz community member for many years following his retirement. He passed away on June 21 at the age of 93.
Snider was hired at New Paltz in 1965 and earned promotion to Professor in 1976. He continued in that role until retiring in 1993, and continued to teach students as an adjunct lecturer through 2000.
In addition to his service in the classroom, Snider was active with the School of Education Advisory Board for many years.
After his teaching career was over, Snider remained a regular presence around campus as a member and leader within the Retired Faculty Group, attending regular meetings and helping coordinate activities and offerings for peers and colleagues.
A published obituary notes that Snider was a veteran of the United States Air Force and an alumnus of Orange County Community College, University at Albany, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Oklahoma State University and Cornell University.
Information about memorial services has not been made public as of this writing. The University will share that information if and when it becomes available.
