Info for employees about the annual, mandatory information security awareness training for 2023

The following information was shared with all faculty and staff via email on Jan. 10, 2023

SUNY New Paltz’s annual information security awareness training is resuming in January 2023.

Faculty and staff who have completed the training in prior years must complete this year’s training by May 31, 2023.

New faculty and staff who have not completed the training before must complete it by Feb. 10, 2023, to ensure awareness and compliance among all campus personnel.

All faculty and staff (including teaching assistants and graduate assistants) will receive an invitation to the training site, if they have not already. Please look for an email from informationsecurity@newpaltz.edu, which will include a link to www.newpaltz.edu/securitytraining.

This URL redirects users to the external training site, KnowBe4, that is under contract with SUNY to provide these required trainings. The  site will ask for your New Paltz email address to access it.

The training is required for all faculty and staff at the University to comply with federal, state, and SUNY policies, laws, and regulations, as well as the new Information Security Awareness Policy (approved by the President’s cabinet in November 2022, and available, as with other technology related policies, at www.newpaltz.edu/itpolicy).

Other changes from previous years:

As requested by Enrollment Management, there is now a training module on the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Faculty and staff who have not completed the assigned training before the due date may lose access to high-risk systems such as Banner, Argos, VPN, or VDI, until their training is complete.

You can pause and restart the training, so you don’t have to do it all at once. Just go back to  www.newpaltz.edu/securitytraining to restart it. The modules are short, and you can complete them all in about an hour if you do it all at once.

Those with questions about the training are invited to email Information Security Officer Paul Chauvet at chauvetp@newpaltz.edu.
