Library’s transformative agreement with Cambridge University Press includes author processing charge waiver for SUNY New Paltz authors

UPDATED with new resources and links on Jan. 30, 2023.

The Sojourner Truth Library has signed a transformative agreement (also known as a read and publish agreement) with Cambridge University Press (CUP) to waive author processing charges (APCs) for SUNY New Paltz authors to support open access.

Authors who want to publish their article in an open access journal or a standard subscription journal as an open access article generally must pay an APC to cover the cost of publishing by the publisher. Open access has many benefits, including increasing the visibility and reach of scholarly work since readers face fewer barriers to access. An added value is that authors retain their copyright, allowing them to freely share and adapt their articles.

To be eligible, your article must:

Have a corresponding author affiliated with SUNY New Paltz. Authors must use their @newpaltz.edu email address to qualify for the APC waiver. You may also need to use an ORCID when submitting your article.

Be original research—eligible article types are research articles, review articles, rapid communications, brief reports, and case reports.

Be accepted for publication in a CUP journal covered by the agreement.

Be accepted for publication from Jan. 1, 2023.

Upon acceptance, choose the Gold Open Access option in your author publishing agreement form and select a creative commons license.

The CUP Read and Publish agreement also provides our campus with access to more than 400 Cambridge University Press journals, including perpetual access to all volumes published from 2023-2025.

For additional details, see How to Publish Open Access Under this Agreement from CUP and Cambridge Transformative Agreement from STL. Librarians have also created an Open Access Guide for reference.
