A celebration for Garry Nack’s retirement, Dec. 7
Facilities Design & Construction congratulates Construction Manager Garry Nack on his upcoming and well-earned retirement from SUNY New Paltz, and invite all members of the campus community to a retirement celebration for Garry on Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 3 – 4:30 p.m. in SUB 409.
Garry joined Facilities Design & Construction in June 2000 and has worked on projects covering the entire campus during his time here as Construction Manager.
He has ensured that the needs of the students, staff, faculty, and visitors, as well as academic departments, administrative offices and the campus overall, have been prioritized no matter what size or type of project he was tasked with.
Garry has managed many projects, from the installation of the new turf field at the southwest corner of campus to the construction of Science Hall on the northeast corner, and many in between during his 20-plus years with the department. He has completed renovations to the Health Center and the Service Building, for Speech Language Hearing Center and Scholars Mentorship Program, brought air conditioning to JFT, HUM and LC and upgraded the campus electrical service, among many other projects.
The completion of the award-winning Student Union Atrium in 2010 was the largest campus-administered construction project ever undertaken at the time. This $13 million project was successfully completed under Garry’s watchful eyes. He moved right on to shepherd another multi-million-dollar ($17 million), multi-phased, campus-administered site renovation project that started in 2010 with the renovation to the Excelsior Concourse on the west side of campus, followed by construction of Mohonk Walk, renovation to the Peregrine (formerly Hasbrouck) Quad, and concluded with the construction of the new parking lot and bus turnaround on the east side of campus in 2019.
It seems safe to say that Garry has helped to improve most of the campus in one way or another in the past two decades. He will be missed by many, but especially by our team here in Facilities Design & Construction!
Garry enjoys the outdoors, hiking, biking, boating and music. You might find him leading a tour at Olana State Historic site in Hudson, biking on the rail trail, boating on the Hudson River or rocking at a Buckcherry concert.
If you’d like to see him to wish him well, you will find him. Please stop by to help us celebrate his accomplishments, wish him luck, and say goodbye. Light refreshments will be served.
With gratitude,
Facilities Design & Construction
