Brief update on planning for Commencement 2021
The following message was sent by email to all students, faculty and staff on March 9.
Dear Members of the Campus Community,
We have heard from many of you, and especially from seniors preparing to graduate, with questions about what the SUNY New Paltz Commencement celebration will look like this spring.
Planning staff and administrators have been working diligently to design a Commencement that honors the achievements of our students and the dedicated work of faculty and staff, while also following SUNY and state public health guidelines.
In all of our planning, safety remains our top priority. The uncertain nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, and our limited ability to predict what conditions will be and what rules and regulations will be in place this May, require us to prepare for multiple contingencies.
While we are unable to share more details at this time, we hope and expect to be able to do so soon.
In the meantime, we invite students who plan to participate in our Commencement celebration (whatever the format) to place their cap and gown orders now.
Use this link to place orders for your Commencement cap and gown.
Our partners at Herff Jones require at least one month from the date of your order to deliver your cap and gown, so you can get your orders in soon or choose to wait until more event details are announced.
Stoles and related items can be ordered as well. Please note that only undergraduate students who have a GPA of 3.30 or higher as of December 2020 are eligible for honor cords. Those students will be contacted separately by the Commencement Office in March. If you have questions concerning your GPA, please contact the Office of Records and Registration.
Again, we thank all students and their families, as well as all faculty, staff and alumni, for their patience. We look forward to sharing more information about Commencement 2021 in the near future.
