Literacy tutoring for grades 2-12: Apply now!
The Literacy Center at SUNY New Paltz is now accepting applications for the spring 2021 Literacy Tutoring Program, which is open to any students in grades 2-12 who need additional literacy support.
The Literacy Tutoring Program connects children with candidates in New Paltz’s Master’s in Literacy Education degree program, for targeted instructional support.
All services will be provided in a fully online learning environment in spring 2021, in a mix of synchronous and asynchronous formats, with small groups of children working with at least two tutors.
Tutors are trained to provide individualized reading and writing lessons to students of various ages, with supervision and guidance from professors in the School of Education.
Tutoring sessions will be offered on Mondays and Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., beginning Feb. 2. Children in grades 2-6 will have a choice of attending either all of the Monday sessions, or all of the Tuesday sessions, while children in grades 7-12 will attend all of the Tuesday sessions. Children accepted to the Literacy Tutoring Program are expected to attend all tutoring sessions.
Tuition for the full-semester program is $75, payable upon acceptance into the program. Spaces are limited, so please apply now by visiting www.newpaltz.edu/literacycenter/. Notifications of acceptance will be sent by Jan. 17.
All sessions are held in the Literacy Center in Old Main on the SUNY New Paltz campus. Use this link for a campus map and directions.
If you have accessibility questions or require accommodations to fully participate in these sessions, please contact Literacy Center Coordinator Sam Slotnick at 845-257-2809 or slotnics@newpaltz.edu.
