Information Technology Services advises Mac users in our community not to update to Big Sur OS
The Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) is advising all Mac users in the campus community not to update to the new operating system, Big Sur, until further notice.
Big Sur, the latest version of the Mac Operating System (macOS), may not be compatible with all software commonly used by SUNY New Paltz students and employees, including Knowmia and the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client.
The third-party companies that created and maintain services like Knowmia and Cisco AnyConnect may provide updates that solve these compatibility issues, but we cannot know how soon those updates might be implemented.
For that reason, ITS urges all Mac users to hold off on updating to Big Sur at this time, to avoid disrupting remote work, teaching and learning.
We will update the community when we know more about pending or confirmed fixes to these compatibility issues.
