Reminders from Design and Print Services

Dear Colleagues,

As we begin the fall semester, the Design and Print Services staff in the Office of Communication & Marketing would like to remind you that we are here to help with your design and print needs.

While we are printing less during COVID-19 and with the new print policy (see below), we are doing more digital work to fulfill your design needs for signage, eblasts, and digital flyers, brochures, booklets and more.

You can place a request for design and print services by logging into my.newpaltz.edu and submitting a ticket via Team Dynamix. Please remember to include an account number to be charged for all print/design requests.

New SUNY Print Policy

Please note that per a new print policy implemented by SUNY System Administration, and based on current budget constraints, all campus printing will be limited to essential projects only and will need vice president or dean approval prior to printing.

This includes all printing requests sent to Print Services in the Office of Communication & Marketing. Please consider if your communication can be conveyed digitally (as a pdf or other) instead of in print.

Key tenets of SUNY’s new print policy include:

  • No purchasing or leasing desktop printers.
  • Don’t print if you don’t have to. If you do need to print, please print double-sided and use black ink, not color.
  • If you have a large print request, we encourage you to send approved requests to Print Services. Using our on-campus shop is more cost effective than either off-campus printing, using your desktop printer/copier or printing while working remotely. Our high-speed digital equipment has a very low rate per click because of our volume, and our bindery provides all the finishing operations needed to complete any job.

Design Requests

All design projects should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the date that the project is needed. A first proof will be provided to you electronically as soon as possible depending on the Design Services work queue and where your job falls within the queue (see “Turnaround times” below).

When submitting a project, you must include all final copy and images. Without final copy and images, Design Services cannot provide you with a first draft of your project, which will delay the production of your project.

Design Turnaround times

The turnaround times listed below for completion of design are with the expectation that all images and final copy are supplied with the submission of the work order. We can also substitute these items with digital flyers, brochures and eblasts. Design turnaround times are as follows:

  • Signage: 2-3 days (depending on number and size of signs)
  • Eblasts: 2-3 days
  • Digital flyers: 2-3 days
  • Digital brochures: One Week
  • Digital booklets: One Week
  • Posters: One week
  • Trifold Brochures: 2-3 weeks
  • Business Cards: 4 days
  • Minor revisions to existing brochures: 1 week
  • Major revisions to existing brochures: 2 weeks
  • Minor revisions to existing booklets: 1 week
  • Major revisions to existing booklets: 2 weeks

Printing Turnaround Times

The design turnaround times listed above do NOT include printing time, so please make sure that when you submit your project (with vice president or dean approval) you take into consideration the time it will take to print your project after it is designed.

The printshop, located in the basement of Haggerty Administration Building, has numerous jobs in their print queue at any given time, which may affect the timing of your project and the turnaround times listed below. Note that reprints or camera-ready orders do not apply to those times.

Please keep in mind that the busiest times of the year for the printshop are:

  • the week leading up to the beginning of the semester and the first weeks of the new semester;
  • the end the semester and the weeks leading up to commencement.

Printing Turnaround Times (these are estimates and subject to change depending on the workload of the printshop):

  • Business Cards: 1 week
  • Stationery: 1 week
  • Variable Data jobs: 1 week to 10 days
  • 11×17 Posters: 1 week
  • 24×36 Posters (mounted on foam board and laminated): 1 week
  • Trifold Brochures: 1 week
  • Multiple-page Brochures: 1-2 weeks, depending on number of pages
