State issues guidance to colleges and universities to allow some in-person instruction and on-campus housing for fall
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced on Thursday, June 18, 2020, that New York State would be issuing guidance to colleges and universities to allow some in-person instruction and on-campus housing for the fall semester.
The state has since issued that guidance for Phase Four Industries (which include education). The state is requiring campuses to develop plans, which attest to meeting the guidance, and which will be approved by SUNY Administration and filed with the state.
New Paltz has been planning for various scenarios this fall, and campus leadership is working to finalize our Reopening for On-campus Activities and Instruction Plan to meet the June 23 deadline. The College must wait until the plan has been reviewed and certified before the plan can be shared publicly.
Following review and certification of the plan by SUNY, further input will be sought from faculty, staff and students in addressing further considerations for implementation. In preparing the plan, a task force and various work groups have been consulted. Many of these groups include UUP staff. In addition, working group engagement as well as consultations have taken place through our existing structures, such as numerous dean and chair meetings and conversations with faculty and student governance.
