May 22: SUNY hosting a federal advocacy update from the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities
The SUNY Office of Research and Economic Development recently launched Research Matters, a webinar series designed to be an informative resource for faculty and students seeking funding for their research. Throughout the series, speakers from broad areas of interest will discuss research programs, funding opportunities, and participate in Q&A sessions.
Please join us for the next in this series on Friday, May 22, at 12 p.m., when Deborah Altenburg, assistant vice president for research advocacy and policy for the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU), will provide an update from Washington on COVID-19 research funding, future federal funding opportunities, a federal budget overview, and share timely policy insights.

About the Speaker
Deborah Altenburg is the Assistant Vice President for Research Advocacy and Policy. She works with both the Office of Congressional and Governmental Affairs and the Office of Research, Innovation & STEM Policy to ensure integration and cohesiveness of APLU research advocacy.
Deborah previously served as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Federal Relations for The State University of New York (SUNY). In this position, she led federal research and policy advocacy efforts for the 64 campus SUNY System. She was also responsible for systemwide research development efforts within the Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, and Department of Energy.
Deborah also previously served for 15 years as Director of Federal Relations for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). During her tenure at RPI she served a term as President of the Science Coalition and three-year term as a Board Member for the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU).
