Literacy Center offering complimentary k-12 assessments on Nov. 19
The Literacy Center at SUNY New Paltz will offer complimentary literacy assessments to children in kindergarten through grade 12.
Graduate candidates in the MS Literacy Education program will administer free literacy proficiency assessments on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Assessment results will be emailed to parents in December.
Children who require remedial literacy support may be invited to attend the spring 2020 Literacy Tutoring Program.
Parents are asked to email Sam Slotnick, Literacy Center coordinator, at slotnics@newpaltz.edu, or call the Literacy Center at (845) 257-2809 to register. Please include contact information, child’s name, age, school grade and school attending, and any additional information about remedial literacy support your child may be receiving.
If you have accessibility questions or require accommodations to fully participate in these assessments, please contact Slotnick as soon as possible.
About The Literacy Center
The mission of The Literacy Center at SUNY New Paltz is two-fold: to provide our teacher candidates clinical opportunities in the diagnosis and remediation of reading and writing difficulties, and to provide literacy instruction to children in our local mid-Hudson Valley communities. In addition to our basic mission, we act as a link between school districts and community organizations interested in reading and writing excellence, and we promote “best practices” based on current research in literacy education.
Our programs meet the rigorous standards of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
