The College recognized exceptional members of the Class of 2019 on Friday, May 17, at the spring 2019 Outstanding Graduates ceremony.
“A reception such as this is a distinctive way for New Paltz to recognize and memorialize the excellent academic performance, and to honor the choices, and sometimes the sacrifices, that this afternoon’s honorees have made during their time here at New Paltz,” said Provost Lorin Basden Arnold. “Graduates, we – your parents and family, your professors, and your friends—are all proud of your academic and professional achievements.”
The ceremony convenes representatives of all five of New Paltz’s schools – the School of Business, School of Education, School of Fine and Performing Arts, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the School of Science and Engineering – for an event that pays tribute to exemplary scholarship across the disciplines.
“Today’s honorees have been chosen to represent the best in each of their departments,” Arnold said. “I also want to acknowledge the important role that faculty have played in their academic and social development. Our excellent and dedicated faculty have mentored and coached our honorees; have shared with them their enthusiasm for learning; have collaborated with them on research projects and have cheered on their participation in co-curricular activities.”
The Outstanding Graduates Ceremony is a relatively intimate addition to the Commencement weekend calendar, giving students the opportunity to celebrate their achievements in a smaller setting, accompanied by friends and loved ones.
