New Paltz art faculty, student, alumni participating in Hudson Valley Pottery Tour
SUNY New Paltz art faculty members, alumni and a current student are among a collective of internationally recognized ceramicists hosting the second annual Hudson Valley Pottery Tour, a unique self-guided experience that invites guests into the studios of some of the region’s most accomplished artists.
The Tour takes place in various locations throughout Ulster County from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21. Admission to all the studios is free and open to everyone.
The Department of Art at SUNY New Paltz is heavily represented on the Hudson Valley Pottery Tour itinerary. Associate Professor Anat Shiftan and Assistant Professor Bryan Czibesz will open the doors to their studios in High Falls and Stone Ridge, respectively, and alumni Doug Peltzman ’05 (Ceramics) and Tim Rowan ’91 will open their studios as well.
Additionally, current Master of Fine Arts candidate Andrew Sartoriuos ’18g (Ceramics), and Ceramics alumni Ben Evans ’07, Sarah Heitmeyer ’16g and Lauren Sandler ’04, will be featured as contributing guest artists at various studios on the tour.
The tour provides a valuable opportunity for art collectors and enthusiasts to get an insider’s look at contemporary pottery and ceramics-making practices, tools and spaces. Tour-goers will be invited to see and touch thousands of objects (many of which are available for purchase), and hear directly from the makers about how they have forged lives and career paths dedicated to their art.
