College mourns passing of longtime University Police Officer Bob Bramley
It is with sadness that the College shares the news of the passing of Robert “Bob” Bramley, 67, on Oct. 23.
Bramley joined the SUNY New Paltz University Police Department (UPD) in 1981 and served as an officer until his retirement in 2009. He had worked for about six years for the Town of New Paltz Police Department prior to joining the College.
While employed at the UPD Bramley met his wife, Roban, to whom he was married for 37 years. He was known around campus as “Officer Bob,” dedicated to serving his community of students and colleagues.
Upon leaving the UPD, the Bramleys retired to North Myrtle Beach, S.C., with their two dogs. Bob enjoyed his days on the beach and continued rooting for the Yankees from afar.
The Times Herald-Record reports that Bramley is survived by wife, Roban Bramley of North Myrtle Beach, SC; his sons- and daughters-in-law, Kyle Bramley and Michelle Van Name of Bethany, Conn., and Sean and Brittany Bramley of Old Bridge, N.J.; a brother, Richard, from San Angelo, Texas; and a sister, Freda, and brother-in-law, Roland Skala, of South Carolina.
The Bramley family has set up a memorial scholarship fund in Bob’s honor to support students pursuing a career in law enforcement. Write to New Paltz Central School District, Attention Scholarship, 196 Main Street, New Paltz, N.Y., 12561 for more information about the Officer Bramley Scholarship Fund.
