New Paltz jumps into top 100 in Forbes rankings of public colleges
The 2017 edition of Forbes list of “America’s Top Colleges” has SUNY New Paltz moving up across the board, as the College climbed into the top 100 among public colleges nationwide, from number 108 in 2016 to number 95 this year.
New Paltz also rose more than 60 places in the overall Forbes rankings, from number 366 to number 305 among all U.S. colleges and universities.
“We’re thrilled by our placement in Forbes’ latest top colleges ranking,” said Vice President for Enrollment Management L. David Eaton. “New Paltz is gaining a reputation as a college on the rise, and our move up this list, which weights metrics related to return on investment and student satisfaction, validates that reputation in a way that everyone in our campus community can be proud of.”
The Forbes ranking methodology “favor[s] output over input,” focusing on the value students receive during their college careers, and how they succeed as alumni. New Paltz’s rise in these rankings (as well as its appearance earlier this year in another Forbes list, of “Best Value Colleges”) reflects real gains in student fulfillment and outcomes in recent years.
The news from Forbes comes less than one month after SUNY New Paltz joined the ranks of the Colleges of Distinction, a unique recognition that relies on a more qualitative evaluation approach to provide substantial guidance for prospective students and their families.
