School of Business celebrates the best of the year at Award & Graduation Ceremony
The students, staff and faculty of the SUNY New Paltz School of Business came together to recognize student excellence, in and out of the classroom, at the School’s end-of-year award celebration on May 5.
The event is a long-standing tradition at the School of Business, and includes presentation of academic and service awards to graduates-to-be and the induction of new members into the Beta Gamma Sigma international honor society.

“In the School of Business we are privileged to interact each day with bright, energetic and optimistic students who are ready to take on the world, and I have personally been enriched by my opportunity to teach and learn from them” said School of Business Dean Kristin Backhaus. “These students have received strong academic preparation, leadership development and career readiness training that will equip them for a rewarding career, and we feel confident that they are leaving New Paltz prepared to manage the rapidly changing working world.”
The highlight of the Award & Graduation Ceremony program is the induction of a select cadre of students into Beta Gamma Sigma. Membership is the highest recognition a student can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB International.
Business faculty also recognized students who will graduate at the 2017 Undergraduate and Graduate Commencement Ceremonies this month, and conferred special distinction upon those who will exit with a GPA of 3.8 or higher.
In recognition of the many ways New Paltz business students lend their skills to local businesses and community organizations, the School also bestowed a small number of Outstanding Service Awards, for students who have demonstrated altruism and leadership skills throughout their time at New Paltz.
The ceremony added two new honors this year: the presentation of New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants Outstanding Students of Accounting Awards, and the certification of students who have completed the School’s new courses in Food Marketing.
