Colleagues gather in new STL space to honor faculty publications
The Sojourner Truth Library opened the doors of its new Faculty & Staff Quiet Study Room to host its annual Celebration of Faculty Authors on April 4.
The long-standing tradition at the library provides a welcome opportunity, during a busy final phase of the academic year, or colleagues to join in recognition of the hard work SUNY New Paltz faculty devote to turning scholarly interests, research and passion projects into published books.
“This is our fourth annual celebration of published works authored or edited by members of our faculty,” said Library Dean W. Mark Colvson. “When I look around at these packages of knowledge, inquiry, inspiration, aspiration and beauty, and consider that each means hours, weeks, months and years of time spent alone, away from family, children and colleagues, I’m reminded again of what a great job it is for all of us who work in libraries.
“Although libraries are usually thought of as quiet and contemplative, they are in fact ringing with cacophony: howls of outrage, vicious argument, passionate cries of the heart, culture clashes and discoveries that change the world. It’s a pleasure to celebrate our own New Paltz community’s contribution to this rich collection of authored works.”
