Former psychology faculty assumes editorial position at major journal
Rose Sokol-Chang, previously a faculty member in the Psychology Department at SUNY New Paltz, has accepted a position as publisher of journals for the American Psychological Association (APA), the leading scientific and professional organization representing more than 117,500 member researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants and students working in psychology.
Sokol-Chang will take charge of the APA’s publication of more than 92 scholarly journals and about 5,000 articles annually, and will be responsible for production, promotion, budgeting, advertising, copyrights and research and development.
“As a psychologist, Dr. Sokol-Chang brings a deep understanding of the field and combines that with a passion for editorial excellence,” said Jasper Simons, APA’s executive publisher.
During her time at New Paltz, Sokol-Chang focused primarily on courses in evolutionary psychology, and was a valued contributor to the College’s vibrant Evolutionary Studies (EvoS) Program.
Sokol-Chang is a founding member of the Feminist Evolutionary Perspectives Society and has previously served as editor-in-chief of the journals Evolutionary Behavioral Sciences and The Journal of the Evolutionary Studies Consortium. She holds a PhD in social psychology from Clark University.
