Princeton Review ranks SUNY New Paltz on best regional colleges list

Screen Shot 2016-08-31 at 1.51.36 PM SUNY New Paltz has once again been named to Princeton Review’s annual list of “Best Colleges: Region by Region” in the publication’s 2017 installment.

A total of 649 schools, representing the top 25 percent of the nation’s four-year colleges, received the designation in four regions: Northeast, Southeast, Midwest and West.

New Paltz is among 228 “academically outstanding” schools recognized in the Northeast region, and one of 13 SUNY campuses to make the list.

“The annual Princeton Review rankings of the ‘best colleges’ in the country are a point of pride for SUNY as well as each of the colleges and universities recognized for the outstanding work they do on behalf of our students, faculty, and staff,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. “The rankings are also a signal to our students that SUNY is dedicated to providing them with a highly valuable degree, which will serve them well long after graduation. Congratulations to SUNY New Paltz on this much-deserved recognition.”

Princeton Review’s assessment of SUNY New Paltz includes informative resources for current and prospective students alike. The College scored very highly (88 out of a possible 99 points) on the publication’s “Admissions Selectivity” metric, reflecting the competitive admissions standards and extraordinary qualifications of accepted students at New Paltz.

The assessment also features comments from students on subjects like academics and campus life.

Student respondents to Princeton Review said, “New Paltz is a place to grow in a nurturing community,” which “prides itself on its diversity” and where “every voice is heard;” those surveyed described faculty as “very helpful and always there for their students,” and the course schedule as providing a “variety of majors to explore;” and campus life features “a lot of organizations, events and opportunities you can take advantage of,” with staff who “really care about students’ experiences and well-being.”

Most recently, U.S. News and World Report declared New Paltz No. 4 among all public regional universities in the North region; The Business Journals placed New Paltz among America’s top 75 public colleges and universities; Forbes magazine named New Paltz on the ninth installment of its list of the best colleges and universities in the nation; and Kiplinger’s named New Paltz to its 2016 list of “100 Best Values in Public Colleges.”
