Interim Vice President for Student Affairs Appointed
The College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Wayne Brumfield as Interim Vice President for Student Affairs, effective July 8. He will serve in the interim role until a new Vice President for Student Affairs is identified through a national search and is expected to join the campus in summer 2017.
Dr. Brumfield comes to New Paltz through the Registry for College and University Presidents, a national organization that places interim administrative leadership at colleges and universities. The Registry has a membership of more than 500 senior-level administrators who are pre-screened and immediately available; their members are not generally eligible to apply for the permanent position.
Dr. Brumfield served as Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Louisiana at Monroe from 2002 until his retirement in fall 2014.
As Vice President, Dr. Brumfield provided leadership to enhance student life experiences, and oversaw University Police, University Counseling Center, Student Health Center, the Offices of Student Services, Student Life and Leadership (Greek Affairs, Leadership Programs), Campus Activities Board, Commuter Non-Traditional Student Services and Spirit Groups, Assistant Dean of Students, Student Government Association and Presidential Lyceum Series, Recreational Services, Aquatic Services, Financial Aid, Recruiting and Admissions, the Center for Academic and Student Success, Service Learning, Warhawks Mentoring Program, Residential Life Programming, Educational Talent Search, Upward Bound, Career Connections and Experiential Education and the Student Union Building.
He was instrumental in the restructuring and revitalization of student life and leadership programs; developed campus safety initiatives; collaborated and supervised the building of new residence halls; increased freshman retention and student satisfaction with the institution; and developed recruitment partnerships with high school guidance counselors, principals and superintendents.
Prior to that he was Registrar and Director of Admissions at Louisiana State University at Eunice from 1999-2002 and served as Director of Admissions and Recruitment at Southern University from 1995-1999. Dr. Brumfield was Assistant Director of Enrollment Service at Southeastern Louisiana University from 1989-1995.
Dr. Brumfield holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette and Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, and his doctorate in educational leadership and research from Louisiana State University.
