Free income tax assistance available through School of Business

The SUNY New Paltz School of Business is offering free tax help to individuals with a gross income below $54,000 as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The walk-in service, housed in van den Berg Hall on the New Paltz campus, is open as of Feb. 1 to anyone with a gross income below $54,000.

The program’s certified student volunteers have received training from the IRS and are fully equipped to provide free tax return preparation assistance and free electronic filing (e-filing).

The VITA program’s free income tax assistance will be available Mondays – Fridays from Feb. 1 – April 14 (excluding the spring semester break, March 21-25) in van den Berg Hall rooms 208A and 324. The service will be open to the public at the following times:

Mondays: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Tuesdays: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Wednesdays: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Thursdays: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Fridays: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

If you are interested in taking advantage of this free service, please be sure to bring photo ID and Social Security Cards; all informational statements such as W-2s & 1099s; last year’s tax return (if available); and your bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit.
