Registration now open for Literacy Tutoring Program at New Paltz
The Literacy Center at SUNY New Paltz is now accepting applications for its spring 2016 Literacy Tutoring Program. This is an individualized remedial literacy tutoring program open to students in Kindergarten through Grade 12.
Applications to the Literacy Tutoring Program will be accepted now through Jan. 18. For information about applying to The Literacy Tutoring Program contact Professor Sam Slotnick at The Literacy Center, 845-257-2809.
Children will meet with their tutors once a week, either Monday or Tuesday, throughout the spring 2016 semester. The tutors are graduate candidates in our MS Literacy Education program who work under the supervision of experienced literacy faculty.
Tutoring sessions will begin on Feb. 8 and continue until May 3 and will be held at The Literacy Center in Old Main Building on the New Paltz campus. Children accepted to participate in The Literacy Tutoring Program are committed to attend all literacy tutoring sessions.
About The Literacy Center
The mission of The Literacy Center at SUNY New Paltz is two-fold: to provide our teacher candidates clinical opportunities in the diagnosis and remediation of reading and writing difficulties, and to provide literacy instruction to children in our local mid-Hudson Valley communities. In addition to our basic mission, we act as a link between school districts and community organizations interested in reading and writing excellence, and we promote “best practices” based on current research in literacy education.
Our programs meet the rigorous standards of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
