New Paltz students raise more than $1,200 for cancer research
The SUNY New Paltz Resident Hall Student Association (RHSA) organized a campus-wide Penny Wars competition during its annual Spirit Weekend, which challenges residence halls to compete against one another in ways that have a positive impact on society.
Penny Wars pits the halls against one another in a fund-raising contest. Pennies are equivalent to +1 point for your hall, while silver coins and paper money can be used to sabotage other halls. New Paltz students raised a total of $1,243.68.
The total funds raised during Spirit Weekend are then entered into a larger competition including universities from the North East Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (NEACURH) Regionals Conference. The NEACURH Regionals 2015 conference host, SUNY Geneseo, selected to donate funds to the American Cancer Society.
The $1243.68 raised by New Paltz students represented more than 68% of the total $1,825.33 raised by all the institutions participating in this NEACURH event.
