College mourns the passing of Emeritus Professor William Allenson
It is with great sadness that the College shares the news of the passing of Emeritus Professor William Allenson, Art Studio Department. He was 92.
Allenson enlisted in the Army Airforce during World War II, where he served for four years as flight engineer within the U.S. He later studied engineering at Champlain College in Burlington Vt. where he received a BFA in Industrial Design.
Upon graduating, Allenson spent several years in NYC working for well-known designers and in 1963 he received an academic appointment to the Art Studio Department at SUNY New Paltz where he worked until 1988. During his time at the College, he created the BFA in Wood Design major.
Raised in Brooklyn, Allenson lived in New Paltz at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Yvonne. He was preceded in death by his parents Bertha and Samuel Allenson, his brother, Morton, who died in World War II, and his sister, Janeth.
