Scholarship recipients say “thank you” at Day of Gratitude event
The Office of Development recently hosted a special Day of Gratitude event for current SUNY New Paltz scholarship recipients.
Roughly two dozen scholarship winners gathered in the Student Union Building’s pre-function space to share their stories and thank donors for their support. College staff captured their testimonials on video, took professional photos of the students, and had them write personal “thank you” letters to the individuals who made their scholarships possible.
“The event was an opportunity for us to bring as many current scholarship recipients together as possible to express their gratitude to those who sponsor the scholarships,” said Eileen Bastien, project director for donor relations and stewardship.
SUNY New Paltz junior Erica Yu, a double major in elementary education and classical violin performance and the recipient of six different scholarships, wrote a letter to those who contributed to the Gary and Janaki Patrik Music Scholarship.
“I have high hopes of becoming an effective and influential music teacher and musician,” wrote Yu in her letter. “By awarding me the Gary and Janaki Patrik Music Scholarship, I am able to concentrate on my college education. Your financial generosity has allowed me to be one step closer to my goal and has inspired me to help others by giving back to the community.”
