Recent grad honored to serve alma mater
As an alumnus who was an active student leader at SUNY New Paltz, Steven Posada ’12, the College’s new alumni relations officer, has an understanding of the culture and diversity of the campus, knowledge of college operations, strong ties to current students and recent alumni, and a proven track record of programming accomplishments.
“With this new position I look forward to encouraging our alumni to reconnect with SUNY New Paltz and be a part of the development and growth of this great institution,” said Posada.
At New Paltz, Posada majored in Spanish with minors in Latin American & Caribbean studies and black studies. He is pursuing graduate studies in higher education administration at SUNY Stony Brook.
Posada was heavily involved in clubs and organizations as a student, and has experience planning and coordinating events for students and parents to build community and foster engagement. He worked for three years as a campus resident assistant and a summer administrative program associate for Orientation operations. His activities included serving as an EOP peer mentor, mission team member for Catholic Campus Ministry, co-founder of the club soccer team, Student Association student senator, member of the budget finance committee, president of the Latin American Student Union, and president of Latino Week.
After graduation, Posada worked as a business development representative for a credit union, responsible for customer service and sales. In March 2013, he started working at Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., first as an assistant resident director and most recently as assistant director of residence life. Posada’s past positions have required him to think on his feet to respond to changing and challenging circumstances, develop creative solutions, and handle sensitive and personal matters to meet diverse needs.
“As an alum, it is an honor to work for my alma mater,” said Posada. “I take much pride in being a graduate of SUNY New Paltz, and I look forward to interacting with others who share that pride as well as relighting the flame for those who have lost their connection.”
