New summer residential arts lab offered for high school students
The School of Fine and Performing Arts at the State University of New York at New Paltz is proud to launch Summer StudioLab @ New Paltz, a new two-week residential program for high school students. The program, to be held July 6-20 on the New Paltz campus, is designed to introduce students to a life in the visual arts.
Participants will be immersed in making art by working in a variety of media in drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking in state-of-the-art studios. During the day, participants will work in small groups with professional artists and faculty and visit exhibitions both on and off campus, including The Dorsky Museum and Storm King Art Center. In the evening, students will have the opportunity to meet with guest artists and work independently in the studios with aid from a teaching assistant. The Summer StudioLab experience will conclude with an exhibit of participants’ own artwork.
Additionally, the program encourages students to experience life as a college art student by having participants live on campus in the SUNY New Paltz residence halls.
“The School is thrilled that the College has chosen to support this new program, and we look forward to expanding our offerings in the coming years to include even more in visual arts, and new programs in music and theater arts,” said Paul Kassel, interim dean of the School of Fine & Performing Arts. “We hope to become a regional resource for high school students preparing to study the arts in college, and who seek a career and life in the arts.”
